Review? Wolves in the Attic 02.13.2008

I don't think I can even count this as a "show" although we did watch a singer-songwriter dude and a singer-songwriter chick play acoustic guitars and screech about cancer or some bullshit and by the time this "band" came on I was pretty drunk and we were more interested in playing pool. Apparently Wolves in the Attic are from Ames, IA and sound roughly the same on their myspace as I recall from the "show" which is to say noisy and loud.

Here's a guest review of our entire evening from Death Metal Roze:

A fabulous day in Des Moines…

Kinda cute beardo waiter at Buzzard Billy’s, $5 wine and chocolate tasting at Mars CafĂ© (all you could drink!) which culminated in champagne, chocolate fondue and much drunkenness and then free pool and live music at Vaudeville Mews.

[Since Princess Hoodie always has to put up with me when I’m ridiculously intoxicated (don’t even ask about 3IoB/COF last year…), I decided to be the DD. Despite forgetting how many pints of beer she had (3!) and sending crazy drunken text mgs to our boys, she still managed to be the pool champion after 5 games (I scratched twice on the break and once on the 8 ball…)]

We saw “Wolves in the Attic” --- I think the wolves were stuck in the attic b’cuz they were DEAF! Since the headliner (Tulsa) cancelled, there was no one at the club so the band was LOUD! Just to explain how dead the club was, the bartender, in his Municipal Waste hat, had enough free time to sew patches onto a new jacket after the last one was lost in a cigarette-still-lit-while-sleeping fire and only the Napalm Death patch survived… – not sure why Des Moines wasn’t totally f’n rocking on a WEDNESDAY, but whatever.

The band was okay, but seriously, it sounded like a cross between the least noisy Sonic Youth and all your favorites of British post-punk. It sounded like something Matador would have released in 1997. If they think are being fresh or edgy by having “WOLF” in their name, it doesn’t help --- their sound is still so 10 years ago. Although, I guess within the metal/metalcore scene, since everyone is just ripping off At the Gates and old skool thrash, maybe music from 10 years ago rehashed and regurgitated is popular in every scene…

and like a typical elitist, this was probably written while listening to a beatles album from 1965. Ohh you people sure got us good!

well, I suppose the joke is on us because we paid cash money to get into this show - although one of the Wolves may have been pretty cute. Wolves... would probably do well in DC though, everyone here loves that shit

Only elitists listen to the Beatles? Do you have any idea how moronic that statement is?

Probably not.
