Brazil
A Wilhelm Scream
The Lawrence Arms
The Ottobar, Baltimore MD
Finally we're getting this blog back to what it's all about: swains (and plenty of 'em, a murrain you might even say). A couple weeks ago I said that Codeseven was so nice they make every other band look like a pile of puke by comparison. Now I guess I have to amend that somewhat (to what though I'm not exactly sure). I mean, every band is nice (except those jerks in Eighteen Visions) but some bands are nice and sweet and soft and fuzzy and incredibly amusing people. Hmmm...
Anyway, I somehow convinced my hot-Sunday-school-teacher-looking friend Ms. deW to go out of state with me on a school night to see 3 and as moral support for my lame attempts at wooing one of them (which was very Joan of Arcadia, but without all the waxing double-entendre). Of course we left about 40 minutes earlier than I usually do and ended up in Baltimore at the same time I always get there. Stupid DC driving. Oy. Plus I couldn't decide where to park and then I had to go through all my crap in the car so we missed one and a half songs of 3's set. D'oh! We did manage to make it for half of 'Where's Max?' so at least we didn't miss anything too important (in the whole scheme of things I mean).
But of course I love 3...Awesome live show and Joey was going crazy rolling on the floor and we thought someone was going to lose an eye due to his broken guitar string. [I hope to see much more crazy guitar playing/singing while rolling on the stage this weekend, Claudio...]
Ms. deW can leave her own comments later, but she feels that every band should have two drummers (while I feel that I should have two drummers, ahem, sorry...)
Do I need to give a score to a band I've seen 9 times?
I enjoyed A Wilhelm Scream a lot more than last time. I also like that they're not one of those 'The' bands..
4/5
I also love Brazil quite a lot and they put on a very energetic set for a less-than-energetic crowd. They seem to have a new bass player (not that I even remembered what 3/6 of them looked like, which is sad since this was the 8th time I've seen Brazil, though to be fair I was pretty far away from the stage 6 of those times). I took a lot of pictures, but I have a hard time rocking out and taking pictures at the same time, so there was not so much rocking out by me either. I'll have to make up for that later, I guess.
This was my second time seeing The Lawrence Arms, although I do have most of their albums. I like the songs that Brenden sings, as opposed to Chris. They did have a pretty enthusiastic, small crowd for their headlining set. They were very punk rock (read: drunk).
4.4182/5
And now it's time for a very special 3 Ridiculous Questions for the Bass Player. Tonight's players are Joe C from 3 and Philip from Brazil with special guest keyboardist Nic from Brazil and additional commentary by the famous Max and Aaron from Brazil.
Question the first: More deadly: Bears or Sharks?
Philip & Nic: Bears [later explained that bears go on land and in water, whereas sharks cannot go on land]
Joe: Ever since I seen a Bear vs Shark poster it conjured up a deadly question in my mind: should I put on my socks or my pants first in the morning? I put my socks on first so it's definitely shark.
Alley commentary by Max and Aaron concluded that in a vacuum like space, sharks would be triumphant because they have larger stomachs. So therefore the Space Shark is the most deadly.
#2 What is the best recent revolution: Orange, Velvet (a/k/a Rose), or Tulip?
Philip: Orange
Nic: Orange
Joe: As a student of history, I would have to say hands down it's Sharks vs Jets
#3 Who would win in an Over the Top style arm-wrestling tournament between Brazil and 3?
Philip: 3
Nic: 3
Philip: in a steel-cage match it would be Brazil
Nic: crossword puzzle match
Philip: Brazil would win a crossword puzzle match
Joe: I have a cat named Kadeo. Sometimes in the morning he cries for food and regardless he always wins me over. So my cat is a hypnotist and he makes me feed him and change his litter. I think he's the incarnate of Winston Churchill.
Extra special bonus round question for Joe S of 3 - what kind of tortillas are your favorite (wholewheat, those red or green ones, etc.)?
Joe: green
{MoS: if you must know the reasoning here, I had a dream about shopping for taco salad ingredients with JS...deeper meaning? WTF? TMI?}
Random other crap:
-special thanks to Billy, Gartdrumm, Max, Joey, Jonathan, Eric, and Brenden just for being brilliant (in addition to the other briliant and very-tolerant-of-me people above: kisses!)
-special thanks to Nic for the fortune cookies (very good fortunes). I think I need to have some Homer Simpson fortunes made up though...
-Coheed/Mars Volta/those Armenian guys - don't know how I can possibly afford more than one or two of those shows...bleah. I would like to meet those Armenian guys though. Plus I'd like to see a Sanchez/Bixler-Zavala showdown (steel-cage match? 'Fro puff-off? Glass shattering contest?). My ears are bleeding with anticipation...
-Hello to our new friend Mr. GWU, who took the MARC train to Bawlmore and was going to have to do something crazy to get home if we didn't give him a ride. That's effing punk rock, dude.
-oooh, and Peter the Ottobar bouncer was back. Tasty...
Upcoming events for June:
-tomorrow (well, today actually) more 3 and Brazil (just can't get enough...)
-this weekend: Music Midtown Fest Atlanta (two words: Def Leppard)
-Thurs 6/16 Into Eternity at stupid Jaxx
-Fri 6/24 Across Five Aprils at the Sidebar

These shows rocked, 3 in particular since they have 2 drummers. And very nice band members. I know a lot more about one of them than I planned. :) And trust me, I am no Sunday School teacher. :) This will be my last school night out of state for a while though since I am still recovering. (devil horns)
