Telescreen
Solar Powered Sun Destroyer
DC9

It's been so long since I've been to a show (not for total lack of trying, Ottobar...) and it's been even longer since I've been to DC9. In fact, I may have never seen anyone other than Verbal here. They have Schlitz cans now though. Classy.

Anyway, having long mourned the breakup of several of my favorite bands over the past couple years, I was pretty excited when I found out Telescreen was coming to DC. Telescreen consists of 4/5 of Codeseven and singer Jared Draughon, who is amazing. Telescreen does in fact have a large screen with various things being projected while they play behind it with minimal lighting on the band members. Musically, it's ambient rock. Similar to Codeseven, but I would actually say better than Codeseven. I hope they make it HUGE with Telescreen - they deserve it.

Solar Power Sun Destroyer is also ambient rock. They had some technical difficulties on the stage, but I really enjoyed them overall. I'll definitely check them out again and pick up their CD, for which this show was a release party. Live, I feel like the vocals could have been either a little louder in the mix or a little more powerful, but the recorded songs on their myspace are really good.

We didn't stick around for Dub Trio, though I probably would have liked them - instrumental rock, yeah!
