Chuck Brown w/Rare Essence
opening band with three drummers?
9:30 Club

This was probably the most fun show I've been to at 9:30. DC Lotto in the house! Wow, even Chuck Brown has a myspace page. There's a good comprehensive explanation of Go Go on Wikipedia. Basically, if you like funk, yelling out stuff during the show, and woodblock, this is the genre of music for you. The local record store chain, Kemp Mill, always has a Go Go section but it really is best live.

I can't figure out the opening band's name right now but they had 3 drummers - one rock kit, one latin kit, and another percussionist. Awesome!

The crowd at this show was a lot of fun. Everyone except that one middle aged white lady standing opposite us in the balcony was really enjoying themselves. And they were polite to each other and just dancing and enjoying a hot summer evening. Good times. This was Chuck Brown's official birthday show - he's 72, if you can believe it. It was a ton of fun, that's really all I can say. Go pick up his greatest hits cd or watch for those DC Lotto commercials if you want to hear what it was like.
