Superchrist
"Opening Acts"
Brews & Cues, Ridgway PA

Since I never got around to writing anything about these two shows, here is a guest review from Death Metal Roze who was in town for "work" that week:

BAWLMOR

Opening was the AWESOMEST atmospheric black metal band ever. The guitarist had a crazy 10-string - Matt pointed out that Dave Mustaine used at the very beginning of Megadeth and it's featured in one of their early videos (You will have to get the details from Matt - I'm not even remembering what kind of guitar it was...), they only played 2 or 3 really long songs (you know, b'cuz it's atmospheric) and best of all, you couldn't understand any of the vocals at all (and I listen to A LOT of black metal --- I can honestly say that I understand Norwegian vocalists in Norwegian more than this guy and I don't know any Norwegian!) they never gave their band name or any song titles and had for sale 5 CDs which were consecutively numbered 1 through 6, but someone's girlfriend had one. [A Esq.] could not stop laughing at them, imagining the vocalist having it out with his father about band practice in the garage and the fact that he's still living at home in the basement after all these years... (This band also has no internet presence and therefore, does not exist)

Superchrist was awesome as always, especially to three super-crazy local fans who never stopped busting a move and busting out all the lyrics. Good to see Hank Bitchlover back onstage - he's never been better. Was surprised that they opened with Iron Maiden's "Running Free" and closed with Motorhead's "No Class" but I guess it's a good way to win over a crowd who may not know you...

We didn't stay for some band about dead babies (NOT Dying Fetus) as interesting as it sounded...

Oh yeah! And that venue was super-tiny and weird. What was the bathroom/pool table room like?

PH: I don't know about the atmospheric black metal band - obviously they were DMR's and A Esq.'s new favorite band though. The bathroom was a little scary, but then again the whole building has that "about to be condemned" feeling about it. I don't think there were any windows in the upper level.
P.S. Parking was ample.

RIDGWAY

Opening acts - remnants of a cover band assembled for a rock-n-roll Halloween wedding reception reprising their performance in a local bar in Western PA for the 30th birthday of Chris Black of Superchrist/Pharaoh/Dawnbringer fame... Need we say more? Highlights included Mr. Black guesting on bass/vox for "Ace of Spades" and the whole crowd getting in on a cover of Turbonegro's "Good Head" by Edenrot.

Superchrist, who once played Frano's camp as "Julie Was Right" was downright amazing, adding some older songs and fun stuff for the local crowd, including "Frano Fucked Yoko Ono" and "Favorite Child of a Lesser God." Fabulous homecoming on the frontman's birthday which included a custom Superchrist cake bearing the motto "anti-birthday, anti-sobriety"...that's pretty much what followed at a local corporate retreat center back in the woods...a place more akin to a hunting camp... I also heard from a reliable source that the 30 people or less involved in the partying almost kicked more keggage over Fri night/Sat than 2-day wedding festivities involving over 100...

PH: I don't have much to say about Ridgway (land of my birth). It was good to hear the old stuff. The cake was excellent. I didn't have much participation in the keg kicking but I did learn a lesson about Bacardi 151 and that I should not be enticed to buy products based on their "Warning: Flammable" labels.
