Be Your Own Pet
Rock & Roll Hotel

I guess I'll count this....Death Metal Roze was in town for a legal conference, so she and I took A Esq. over to the Rock & Roll Hotel for their 'Warriors'-themed Halloween party which was supposed to feature a DJ set by The Bravery (OK - they were the 'party hosts' and they were there - they stood in front of me and then I couldn't see BYOP). We don't know if that ever started but we did catch Nashville punks (and indie critical darlings) Be Your Own Pet. I've read about them in the Village Voice music section for the last year or so and they apparently toured with Sonic Youth this summer. They were good - not typically my thing, but very energetic and entertaining. Not a huge crowd, but all things considered (Wednesday night, taxi strike, midnight Metro close) it was a good crowd. Except for that one guy who was yelling about keeping things punk rock and people standing in the back who almost got in a fight with a girl (she had to be held back by two or three people and was swinging at him and yelling - I thought she would at least spit on him...oh well). We didn't stick around for too much longer after that due to my enduring illsnesses and the fact that it was Wednesday and DMR had an early morning flight on Thursday. Pretty good Halloween though.
