Enter Shikari
Ottobar
First of all, I just have to say that it's been quite a while since I've seen a new band on purpose. I've read quite a bit about London's Enter Shikari and they're definitely being treated (in the UK at least) as the Next Big Thing. ES lives up to the hype though - really amazing show. They looked a little shocked that the medium-sized Ottobar crowd was so crazy - stage diving and singing along and heckling for songs that they "haven't played in 3 years." Bawlmor kids are always up on the trends though, so it wasn't surprising to me. Enter Shikari describe themselves as Trance-Hardcore, which is pretty accurate. 'Hardcore techno' as a genre has never been as popular in the US as in Europe or the UK, so I guess it's not really surprising that it's one of the few musical styles that hasn't been incorporated into mainstream US music (Ref. nu metal). Thus, I don't know if ES will catch on in a big way here, but they've got enough hardcore punk style to carry them through the US scene of 'Nintendocore' bands. That said, it was a great show.
