Cracker
Jammin Java
Lucky for me (who had to appear at both jobs this day), this show was a 'late show' with doors at 9:30 pm. I arrived about 9:45 or so to find a line the length of the strip mall - no one had gotten in yet. Some drunk fucker (he was drinking a can of Schlitz malt liquor while in line and spent the first half of the show making metal horns at Johnny Hickman and yelling out stuff) was complaining very loudly that he'd never had to wait in a line at Jammin Java before. Apparently he didn't try to see the Nightwatchman... [weird, unrelated link]
So this tour was just David Lowery on acoustic guitar and Johnny Hickman on electric. Freakin sweet! They played a good mix of songs, including 'Dr. Bernice' which I never expected to hear live. Musically it was great. Crowdly, not so much: I couldn't see much of the last couple songs due to the obnoxious couple who came up and got in front of me (there was a kid sitting on the stage and I was standing right behind him) and who then proceeded to video the last few songs (including Dr. Bernice) on the dude's fucking Trio. I guess you know you're in the yuppie 'burbs when you're at a concert full of nerds and people who are still drunk from office happy hours are taking pictures on their smartphones. Ugh.
After the show I bought a new Cracker shirt to replace the one I traded to some Russian punk guy in 1995. I wanted David Lowery to sign it but my silver sharpie from the car was all dried up. Gah! Nothing is coming up Milhouse lately...
